Howard County Has Highest Voter Turnout in the State of Maryland

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Ken Ulman today congratulated and thanked all Howard County citizens who voted in last week’s election; Howard County had the highest voter turnout percentage in the State of Maryland (83.3%), according to figures from the Maryland State Board of Elections.

“I’m both pleased and proud,” said County Executive Ulman. “When it comes to stepping up to the plate and making their voices heard, Howard County residents do that all the time.” Ulman also noted, “I want to send a special thank-you to the hundreds of election judges who served on November 4th. I visited many locations last Tuesday and heard nothing but good things about how these polling places were run---and every polling location in Howard County opened ON TIME.”

Howard County Elections Board Director Betty Nordaas remarked, “Not only did we have the highest turnout percentage in the State, but all those people who voted were incredibly patient and pleasant throughout that busy day. “

2008 has been an awfully good year for Howard County: Forbes Magazine ranked the County among its top-20 list of “Best Places to Raise a Family,” Money Magazine ranked Columbia/Ellicott City the “8th Best Place to Live,” in the nation, and just this month the County’s environmental protection initiatives were featured on NBC’s Nightly News.
