Howard County’s Bureau of Utilities Hosts Miss Utility Contractors Night

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works’ Bureau of Utilities invites all contractors to spend an evening learning how to make their jobs easier and safer on Wednesday, October 29. Miss Utility Contractors Night will be held at the Glenwood Community Center, 2400 Route 97 in Cooksville, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Dinner will be provided to all attendees along with the chance to win door prizes throughout the evening. The event is free.

Miss Utility Contractors Night was designed to help contractors gain a better understanding of the call-before-you-dig law and how to more efficiently communicate with utility line locators. Representatives from local utility companies and Miss Utility will be on hand to answer any questions about the Miss Utility/District One Call system and damage prevention. Attendees will receive a copy of the new Marking Standards Guide, the latest information from local utilities and have an opportunity to network with fellow contractors.

Miss Utility is a one-call notification center that informs subscribing utility owners of a contractor’s proposed excavation plans. Anyone who is planning to excavate must call Miss Utility at least two business days prior to any digging. In turn, Miss Utility arranges for member utility operators to have the underground lines at the project site marked so that workers can carefully excavate around them and protect the lines during construction.
