Howard County Planning Board Reviews 1st Batch of Zoning Regulation Amendments under New System

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Planning Board released their schedule of meetings today to review the twelve zoning regulation amendments (ZRAs) delivered from the County Council’s Office as part of the new ZRA batching system in Howard County. As of July 9, 2008 members of the public have the opportunity to file zoning regulation amendments two times a year – during the months of February and August. Twelve amendments were filed during the first batch in August.

The Planning Board will begin hearing testimony for all 12 petitions, on October 16th in the Ellicott Room of the George Howard Building in Ellicott City. Cases not heard on the 16th will roll over to the October 23rd meeting which will be held at the County’s new temporary office location, 8930 Stanford Boulevard in Columbia. Any remaining petitions will be heard on October 30th (location to be determined). The following list indicates the order in which each ZRA will be heard:

  • ZRA 103 Horse Farm, LLC. (Sec. 127.1 - PSC -overlay district)
  • ZRA 104 Marsha McLaughlin (Rt. 1 Corridor)
  • ZRA 106 James & Frances Buch (amend CAC to permit additional uses)
  • ZRA 107 Robert & Maxine Walker (delete "C" from Sec. 131.N.32 - Limited Outdoor Social assemblies)
  • ZRA 108 Brantly Dev. Group (amend definition of Age-Restricted Adult Housing)
  • ZRA 109 SK King George, LLC (Sec. 131.I.3 - time periods to achieve plan approval)
  • ZRA 110 Aladdin Rock, LLC (Sec. 127.5.E.3.e. (moderate income housing)
  • ZRA 111 Land Design & Development (to provide necessary changes to Neighborhood Preservation Parcel legislation)
  • ZRA 112 Marsha McLaughlin (Section 128.9 – fence setback from public road)
  • ZRA 101 Peralynna (Country Inn - conditional use)
  • ZRA 105 Concerned Citizens of Western Ho. Co. (No Planned Service Area-Amend B-1 & B-2)
  • ZRA 102 Wilde Lake Business Trust (NT/ Village Center)

The Planning Board meetings will begin at 6:00 p.m. and finish by 10:30 p.m. in order to allow the maximum amount of time for the public to comment upon the twelve amendments. Additionally, the Planning Board will hold a work session on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at the County’s new temporary office location, 8930 Stanford Boulevard in Columbia.
