Howard County Launches Online Permit Tracking System

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Department of Inspections, Licenses & Permits has gone live with an online component of their automated permitting process. The new service will allow permit applicants to track the status of their permits from application all the way through final inspection. The link to the “citizen access” module can be reached from the Department’s webpage dilp.howardcountymd.gov and then clicking on “Online Services”.

“Currently our applicants must dial into an automated Integrated Voice Response (IVR) line, or call a permit tech to check the status of permit and inspection results,” said Bob Frances, Director of the Department of Inspections, Licenses & Permits. “The web page is much faster, provides much more detailed status information and is available 24 /7.”

Once on the site, users can look up permit information on any building, grading, plumbing, mechanical, electrical or sign permit, by choosing the “Permit” tab; there is a separate tab for fire permits. To perform a “general search,” users must enter the permit number or the address. In addition to checking an address to see if any permits have been applied for at any given location, users can see specifically which agencies have reviewed or approved the permit. Users will also be able to view specifically who reviewed or inspected their permits and their associated comments.
