NEWS RELEASE July 1, 2008 Media Contact: Kevin Enright, Director, Office of Public Information, 410-313-2022Ulman Dispatches Howard County Housing Inspectors to Flood Ravaged Iowa ELLICOTT CITY, MD -- Howard County Executive Ken Ulman will send four building inspectors from the County’s Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits (DILP) to assist with building inspections in the flood stricken area south of Cedar Rapids in Louisa County, Iowa. The inspectors are being dispatched in response to a call for help issued by the State of Iowa to the Maryland Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) through a state-to-state Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). The EMAC request was for International Code Council (ICC) Certified Building Inspectors. The four Howard County inspectors who will travel to Iowa all have the ICC certification: Sean Kelly, Chief of the Inspections & Enforcement Division of DILP, will head up the team which will include Ed Ackerman, Kenneth Brown and Dave Baer. They will be the only inspectors from the State of Maryland on the mission which is expected to last 16 days. Howard County will be reimbursed for all costs by MEMA. |
