County Solicits Public Comment on Interim Transit Report

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – At a meeting of the Howard County Public Transportation Board (PTB) last night, a County consultant presented an interim report outlining its findings to date and alternatives for future transit improvements. Howard County is undertaking a comprehensive assessment of its local bus service, Howard Transit, with the objective of developing recommendations for service expansions and capital improvements.

“I am sincerely committed to improving our bus service in Howard County, but we need County citizens to identify and prioritize what is most important to them,” said County Executive Ken Ulman.

The consultant’s interim report is available on the County’s website, www.howardcountymd.gov under the “What’s New…” section. Printed copies will also be available starting Thursday, July 3 at all Howard County libraries, senior centers and the Department of Planning and Zoning public reception desk at 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD. The County invites the public to submit comments regarding these findings and options. Comments should be sent to Fred Fravel of KFH Group at ffravel@kfhgroup.com

The next Public Transportation Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m. at 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD. Based on additional analysis and comments received prior to that meeting, the consultant will present further strategy refinements. Added materials will be available for review on the County website on Tuesday, July 15. The public will then have 60 days in which to provide comments and recommendations. In August (date to be announced), the Board will convene a work session to which the public will be invited. Preliminary recommendations are expected to be presented for public review in the fall.
