“Recreation and Parks Month” in Howard County

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – County Executive Ken Ulman has proclaimed July “Recreation and Parks Month” in Howard County. The proclamation coincides with the National Recreation & Park Association’s kick off of its annual nationwide awareness campaign which encourages people to visit parks and get more involved in outdoor leisure and recreational activities.

“Research shows that 75 percent of Americans take advantage of their local parks and recreation facilities, and that’s good news,” said Ulman. “With summer in full swing, it’s a great time to visit one of our beautiful parks, take a stroll, pack a picnic supper, rent a paddle boat at Centennial Lake or enjoy one of our summer concerts.”

Back by popular demand, Howard County’s Department of Recreation & Parks has planned “31 Ways to Celebrate” Recreation & Parks Month. Activities include visits to historical sites, Wednesday evening Sunset Serenades and the Traveling Bands concert series.

For more information on how you can become a Recreation & Parks’ community volunteer, call (410) 313-4624 or visit the department’s website at www.howardcountymd.gov/rap.
