County Public Transportation Board Hosts Meeting on Transportation Development Plan

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Public Transportation Board (PTB) invites the community to attend its next meeting on Tuesday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Tyson Room of the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City. Consulting firm KFH Group will present their draft concepts for a new five-year Transit Development Plan (TDP).

“At a time when gas prices are at a historic high and the region’s ground level ozone continues to be at levels that are harmful to at-risk individuals, it is imperative that we do all that we can to make our local bus system efficient, cost effective and environmentally responsible,” said County Executive Ken Ulman.

KFH and the County hosted a number of prior listening sessions with customers, community advocates, public agencies and employers to analyze Howard Transit’s institutional structure, routes, passenger demand and operations. They also looked at existing land usage, demographics, trip patterns, equipment and technology.

“It is critical that we are able to assess the existing services and operations, in order to meet the needs of the community,” said Carl Balser, Chief, Division of Transportation, Department of Planning and Zoning.

As the demand for public transportation continues to grow Howard County is attempting to put forth strategies for Howard Transit that optimize services performance, accurately project ridership growth and produce realistic budgets.
