The Stage is Set for Howard County’s 50+EXPO

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s 50+EXPO for 2007 features daylong entertainment for seniors and families. The event is free and will be held on Friday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wilde Lake High School, 5460 Trumpeter Road, Columbia.

New this year is kid’s music legend Barry Louis Polisar. A four-time Parents’ Choice Award winner, Polisar has performed his unique and refreshing songs and stories for audiences at The White House, The Smithsonian and The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Polisar’s performance, a true grandparents’ treat, is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Rouse Theatre. The performance is ideal for elementary school students, since Maryland Public Schools are closed that day.

The ever-popular “Capitol Steps” are back this year delighting audiences with their high-energy political satire and will perform in the Rouse Theatre at 12:30 p.m.

The Columbia Association Café 50+ features:

  • 9:00 a.m. – A father and daughter duo, Josh and Esther; Josh is an accomplished folk guitarist and Esther delights audiences with her Irish Whistle tunes
  • 10:00 a.m. – “Classic” American Jazz provided by the popular Last Chance Jazz Band; for the past twenty years, these performers were familiar faces at The Last Chance Saloon
  • 11:00 a.m. – A medley of Broadway show tunes, the young, energetic members of ArtsCentric perform locally at dinner theatres
  • 12:00 p.m. – Master of Ceremonies, Ellis Woodward returns once again this year to present an hour of his favorite music
  • 1:00 p.m. – Former Wilde Lake residents and others make up the Carribean sounds of the Unity Reggae Band.
  • 2:00 p.m. – Studio Dans, co-founded by Samantha Hunt and Dana Keane in Marriottsville, will offer a dance demonstration, followed by audience participation. Their studio offers a wide variety of classes including a Family Dance Night once a month.
