12-day event promises fun for all!

4th Annual Farm-City Celebration Kicks off Harvest Season

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s 4th annual Farm-City Celebration will begin on Tuesday, September 25 and run through Saturday, October 6, and offers twelve days of fun for families and “kids of all ages.”

“Many people don’t realize that agri-business is one of Howard County’s top five industries,” said County Executive Ken Ulman. “This celebration is a great opportunity to highlight the benefits farming offers our community. In addition to being good stewards of the land and preserving green space, farmers work long, hard hours to produce fresh, nutritious and high-quality foods for our families. “

This year’s kickoff will take place on Tuesday, September 25, when Ulman will trade places with Leslie Bauer of Rural Rhythm Farm in Dayton. While Ulman joins Rick Bauer, Leslie’s husband, on the family’s grain farm, Leslie will have a chance to sit at the County Executive’s desk and experience some of the weighty decisions the local leader faces on a typical day. Meanwhile, Ulman will try his hand at repairing farm equipment, driving a combine and harvesting corn.

The annual celebration features open houses and special activities including “Funny Farm” and “Barnyard Bash” agriculture related story times at library branches, farmer’s markets, a Healthy Howard Family Walk at Clark’s Elioak Farm, the riding of the Iron-Bridge Hounds at Sharp’s at Waterford Farm and Farm Heritage Days at the Antique Farm Machinery Club’s Living Heritage Farm Museum in West Friendship. Admission for that event is $5.00 and includes activities, demonstrations, crafts and live entertainment.
