Water Restrictions Lifted in Howard County

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Director of Public Works Jim Irvin has announced that, effective immediately, the water restrictions in Howard County have been lifted.

Since May 18, residents and business owners of Howard County who are served by the public water system have been under a mandatory water restriction due to continuing repairs on a major water delivery main in Baltimore County. In addition to the major water main, which is 54 inches in diameter and delivers a significant amount of drinking water to Howard County, repairs have also been completed on a 36-inch water main.

Officials had determined that the outdoor restrictions were necessary to ensure that adequate water supply and pressure were available throughout the summer for basic customer service and, most importantly, fire protection.

“I am pleased to report that the repair work on the water delivery system is now complete, and the water restrictions can be lifted,” said County Executive Ken Ulman. “I want to thank the residents and business owners who so conscientiously adhered to those restrictions and helped us conserve water. I appreciate their patience.”
