Turkey Trot Fun Walk/Run
Join the Department of Recreation & Park for a crisp early morning 1-mile fun walk/run. All walkers and runners who compete the fun walk/run will be entered into a prize drawing for a gift card that can be used towards your family's Thanksgiving turkey. Three winners will be chosen. Howard County Double Cross - HoCo2xCx
The fast-growing and wildly entertaining combination of on and off road bicycle racing returns to Howard County. Howard County Double Cross features two days of cyclecross races for men, women, boys and girls of all ages and abilities, including a free "Lil' Belgains" kids' fun race for ages 10 and under. Spectate for free as elite, national-caliber racers compete for a total purse of over $2,000 and series points in race Nos. 7 and 8 of the 9-race MABRAcross Series, which spans Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. Annual USA Cycling license required for Category 1, 2 and 3 riders. One-day licenses available for Category 4, junior and master riders. Hosted by Howard County Recreation & Parks, C3-Sollay.com and Team BBC. Cost: $25 for Elites, $20 for Seniors and Masters, $10 for Juniors and Kids are free. For more information visit

Saturday Night at the Movies - "Confessions of a Shopaholic"
Join the Department of Recreation & Parks for an evening filled with drama, excitement and action at the Glenwood Community Center, where a movie will be shown in their comfy movie lounge. Tickets cost $2 per movie ticket and include popcorn and a drink. Pre-registration is preferred. For ages 5 and up; all movies are rated PG. Howard County Government Furlough Days
All County Government offices, senior centers, county parks and Recreation & Park centers will be closed from December 28 through December 31 as part of the County’s furlough days. Recreation & Park centers include the Glenwood Community Center, Roger Carter Recreation Center, Kiwanis-Wallis Recreation Center and Meadowbrook Facilities. Regular trash and recycling collection services will be in effect and the landfill will be open. Howard Transit will be operating on a holiday schedule; please call 1-800-270-9553 for the holiday schedule. The Libraries will be closed only on Thursday, December 31. All parking regulations and fees will be in effect. The 9-1-1 Center, Police and Fire departments remain staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For emergencies, call 9-1-1. For non-emergencies, please call 410-313-2200.
