PAD Site Information

AED Information

All AEDs in the Howard County PAD Program are either Medtronic LifePak CR Plus or LifePak Express biphasic, semi-automatic external defibrillators. These AEDs allow for integration with Howard County Fire and Rescue's LifePak 12 monitor/defibrillators.

AED pads and batteries expire about two years after they are placed in the AED. If the expiration date is approaching, contact the Program Coordinator.

The following equipment should be kept with the AED at all times:

A. Two adult electrode pads.
B. Two disposable pocket CPR masks.
C. Disposable gloves
D. Two safety razors
E. One towel and/or five 4x4 gauze pads.

Training

Although course attendance cards are valid for two years, everyone is encouraged to attend classes every year to keep skills fresh.

AED Inspections

A daily inspection of the AED is required and includes the following:

1. The AED is secure in the cabinet.
2. The required equipment is present.
3. The AED displays "OK".

Each daily inspection should be recorded on the AED Inspection Record form. At the end of each month, the form should be faxed to 410-313-XXXX. If "OK" is not displayed, note it on the inspection form and immediately contact the Program Coordinator.

Site Managers

Every building will have a designated "Site Manager." This is person acts as the liaison between the site and the Program Coordinator. The Site Manager has the following responsbilities:

1. Ensure that the daily inspection is completed.
2. Notify the Program Coordinator of any problems with the AED.
3. Encourage employees to attend training.
4. Notify the Program Coordinator of expiring AED pads or batteries.

After Using the AED

After using the AED during a medical emergency, perform the following:

1. The AED is out of service and should be placed in a secure location.
2. Immediately contact the Program Coordinator at 410-868-4753.
3. The AED will be cleaned and equipment restocked if needed by the Program Coordinator.
4. Incident information will be downloaded.
5. Site Manager completes the AED Use Form.
6.The Medical Director will review incident information.
