Nov. 19-20: The Recreational Licensed Child Care and Community Services Division of Howard County Recreation and Parks would like to announce the 8th Annual Turkey Bowl Flag Football Tournament. The event will feature 18 elementary and middle school teams facing off in eight separate games.

Adopt-a-Road Clean-Up: Recreation & Parks adopted a one-mile stretch of Oakland Mills Road as part of the Adopt-a-Road Program. Eleven employees participated and picked up a total of 105 pounds of trash and recycled 35 pounds of the trash collected for their first clean-up event. Click here to view the photos on facebook.

October 13, 9 AM-noon: Howard County Recreation & Parks Director John Byrd invites the public to an open house at Belmont Manor and Historic Park. The Department will offer walking tours of the premises and light refreshments will be available.

Maintenance: The Howard County Department of Public Works, Bureau of Highways will be performing maintenance to the storm water management pond located within Font Hill Wetlands Park along Font Hill Drive. This routine maintenance is necessary to restore the functionality of the forebay which has filled with silt and vegetation. In addition, the southern slope of the pond will have its original design contour reestablished. Work is scheduled to begin in October. May 30: Howard County has purchased historic Belmont in Elkridge from Howard Community College. Belmont consists of a manor home, a carriage house, a cottage, a large barn, tennis courts and a pool on 80 acres. Click here to read the press release.

May 10: The Baltimore Touchdown Club honored Recreation and Parks employee Michael Milani with its Service to Football Award. Milani leads a division that organizes and promotes youth football in the county. His leagues provide coaching, equipment and facilities for thousands of young athletes.
