The Department of Public Works will begin a capital project on Monday, October 10, weather permitting, to replace approximately three miles of water main along Route 1, between Meadowridge Road and Montgomery Road, Elkridge. Signs are posted in the area to alert motorists and residents of the project, which is scheduled for completion in December 2007. The construction process will start on south end at Meadowridge Rd. and move northwards. Temporary, single lane closures on Route 1, Meadowridge Road, Montgomery Road, and/or Old Washington Road are necessary to build and install the pipelines over the course of the construction. To alleviate traffic congestion, work on Route 1 will take place at night; however, work on Old Washington Road will be done during the day. Signs and flagging operations will direct traffic around the construction zone. The capital project will improve the delivery of water service in this area, where water main breaks along Route 1 are attributed to corrosive soils of the region. James Irvin, Director, Department of Public Works, said, "The Department is aware that this project will inconvenience the driving public. We appreciate their understanding and patience while these improvements are put into place.” If you have any questions regarding capital project number W-8238, contact the Department of Public Works Customer Service Representative at 410-313-3440 or by email: publicworks@howardcountymd.gov |
