Howard County residents can dispose of trash and recycling items at the Alpha Ridge Landfill. Residents using the landfill are required to show their driver's licenses as proof of residence in Howard County each time they enter.

NOTE: Residents disposing of construction, demolition, and home improvement waste will be charged the commercial tipping fee ($65/ton). This includes deliveries mixed with household waste.

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Saturday, 8 am to 4:00 pm (residential)
Monday - Saturday, 8 am to 3:30 pm (commercial)
Sundays - Closed

Closed on the following holidays:

    New Year's Day
    Memorial Day (observed)
    Independence Day (closed July 4th)
    Labor Day
    Thanksgiving Day
    Christmas Day

Directions: From Route 29 north, take Interstate 70 west to exit 83. Turn right onto Marriottsville Road. The landfill entrance is on the left.

LANDFILL USE - RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL

RESIDENTS' CONVENIENCE AREA

    The convenience area at the Alpha Ridge Landfill (410-313-6444) accepts appliances, metal cans, glass bottles & jars, plastics, paper, cardboard, usable building materials, oil, antifreeze, automobile batteries, scrap metal, tires, propane tanks, carpet, rigid plastics, cooking oil, roof shingles, polyurethane foam, old clothing and textiles, electronic equipment and Christmas trees. Residents with brush or wood waste will be directed to the yardwaste drop-off site.

COMMUNITY CLEANUP

Communities can call Environmental Services (410-313-6444) to request a reservation form to complete for delivery of a dumpster for a specified site for a weekend community clean up. The limit is twice yearly; there is no fee.
