HOUSING COMMISSION

Organization of the Commission

  • The Board consists of 7 voting members
  • At least 5 members shall be residents of Howard County
  • The Commission is appointed by the County Executive and approved by the County Council
  • The Articles of Organization are adopted pursuant to the Housing Authorities Law, article 44A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
  • A nonvoting member of the Board shall be a member of the Howard County Housing and Community Development Board selected in accordance with Section 13.501 (d)
  • Of the 7 voting Commissioners, at the time of appointment, 1 shall be a person of eligible income.
  • By majority vote of all members, the Commission shall annually select from among its members, a chairman, a vice chairman and a liaison to the Howard County Housing and Community Development Board (HCD). The member selected as the liaison to the HCD Board shall serve as a nonvoting ex-officio member of the Housing and Community Development Board in accordance with section 13.501(c)(2) of the Howard County Code.
  • No members shall serve more than 2 consecutive five year terms
  • Staff. The Commission may employ an Executive Director, technical experts and other officers, agents and employees, permanent and temporary, and shall determine their qualifications, duties and compensation.
