The Honorable Doctor Calvin Ball was elected in November 2006 to continue to represent the 2nd District, which includes the Columbia villages of Long Reach and Oakland Mills, as well as Elkridge, Ellicott City, and Jessup. On December 4, 2006, Calvin Ball was elected the youngest Chairperson of the Council in Howard County history in a brief legislative session held in Ellicott City immediately following the installation of members of the newly elected Council. Calvin is a Maryland native and Columbia resident, where he served three terms on The Oakland Mills Village Board. Calvin has the distinct honor of having been the first Community Development Officer in Howard County, facilitating neighborhood revitalization in the Village of Oakland Mills. Calvin has nearly 10 years of experience in the field of higher education. Over the last seven years, he has facilitated classes in subjects such as Critical Thinking, Ethics, and Political Science. In addition to instruction, he has assessed, trained and mentored new faculty members. He has also been a certified mediator for nearly 10 years and has worked in the conflict management field as a mediator for organizations such as The Community Mediation Program and the Maryland State Human Relations Commission. He has also served as a Mediation Supervisor for the Office of The Attorney General. Calvin holds a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from Towson State University, an M.A. in Legal and Ethical Studies from the University of Baltimore, and a Doctor of Education from Morgan State University. |
