ELECTIONS

Members of the County Council are elected by district to four year terms. Council elections occur in the same year in which Maryland's governor is elected. All members run for election at the same time.

Members elected in November assume office on the first Monday of the following December.

Members taking office in December 2006 will be paid $49,000. The Chairman, who is elected by the Council, makes $1,000 more. Beginning in December 2007, Council salaries will be adjusted annually based on the consumer price index.
