The Foundation Fighting Blindness offers information and referral services for affected individuals and their families as well as doctors and eye care professionals. Provides comprehensive information kits on Retinitis Pigmentosa, Macular Degeneration, and Usher Syndrome. The Foundation's newsletter,In Focus is published 3 times a year and presents articles on coping, research updates, and Foundation news.

A private, non-profit school, the Maryland School for the Blind educates children and youth who are blind or have low vision, including those with multiple disabilities. As Maryland's premier resource for blind and low vision children and youth, the school serves more than 700 students each year throughtout the state. Enrolled students receive therapeutic and health care support to assist in overcoming barriers in addition to the the basics of math, reading, science, social studies and vocational education. Students may also learn Braille or low vision techniques, orientation and mobility skills as well as self-help, social and decision making skills. The school is fully accredited by both the National Accreditation Council for Agencies Serving the Blind and Visually Handicapped (NAC) and the Middle States Association for Colleges and Secondary Schools.

The MD State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is a regional library in the Library of Congress network that provides free library service to persons unable to read or handle ordinary books and magazines because of visual or physical impairment. A variety of materials and special equipment is available. Call for more information and eligibility requirements.
