COMMISSION FOR WOMEN

The Howard County Commission for Women (HCCW) was established by statute in 1980. Its purpose is to promote the economic, social and political equality of women. The Commission is comprised of eleven volunteers who are nominated by the County Executive and appointed by the County Council.

The Commission supports programs and services of the county government and/or private organizations that have complementary goals and objectives. In addition, the Commission coordinates its activities with the Maryland Commission for Women and the National Association of Commissions for Women.

In order to accomplish its goals, the Commission:

  • Promotes a positive image of women and recognizes their accomplishments.
  • Encourages qualified women to seek elective and appointive office.
  • Encourages the expansion of educational and employment opportunities for women.
