Addictions Services Program / Substance Abuse Treatment

Howard County Health Department, Addiction Services offers a variety of treatment and education programs, targeting the needs of the inmate population of the Howard County Detention Center. The staff under the Addiction Services Program consists of a coordinator, two addictions counselors, and one court evaluator. These services consist of several interrelated treatment programs.

The Addiction Services Program has two funding sources; state and county. In order to be supervised under this program, the judges of the Howard County District and Circuit Court must sentence offenders to it. The program has also been accepting voluntary participants who demonstrate a need and have been recommended by administrative staff at the Howard County Detention Center. In addition, counselors conduct court-ordered in-depth alcohol and drug evaluations for inmates awaiting trial or sentencing. Additionally, one counselor participates in the weekly case management review board of the Detention Center.
