ADVISORY BOARD BIOS Lori Lease: Chairwoman Lori Lease has been a resident of Howard County, Maryland since 1984. She is a licensed realtor with Caton Realty, where she has been specializing in residential sales for approximately 25 years. She is a graduate of the Realtor’s Institute, and a Certified Residential Specialist. She is also a member of the Howard County Million Dollar Association, the Howard County Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and the Maryland Association of Realtors. She is past vice-chairperson for the Professional Standards Committee for the Association of Realtors. She has been involved in the Howard County Community since moving here in 1984 from Catonsville. She is the past president of the Hunt Country Estates Community Association where she was instrumental in the development and placement of the “lazy S” section of Route 100. Through her efforts it was moved from Deep Run Stream area and saved the demolition of several homes. In addition it saved Howard County thousands of dollars. She is a recipient of a Congressional Award for Problem Solving regarding the construction of Route 100. The Maryland State Highway Administration honored her by making her an honorary “engineer” at the ribbon cutting ceremony for Route 100. She is a recipient of the Howard County Citizen’s Certificate of Appreciation. The governor appointed Mrs. Lease a notary public in the 1980’s. She has also served as an election judge in Howard County. As a Certified Maryland Master Gardener, she assists Maryland residents in learning various gardening techniques. In the fall, she will be attending the Community /college of Baltimore to become a floral designer. Her property is certified by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources as part of “Maryland’s Wild Acres” for the benefit and protection of Maryland’s wildlife. Lori and her husband Charlie have been married 21 years and have two sons. Timothy (age 14) and Charles (age 18). Charles has finished his first year at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and Timothy is finishing his first year of the Technology Magnet program at Long Reach High School. Lori has been a member of the Consumer Affairs Advisory Board since 1998 and her term expires May 1, 2004. Douglas Dribben has been a resident of Howard County, Maryland, since 1997. An active duty Army Officer, he is stationed at Fort Meade and serves as a supervisory attorney at the Army Claims Service, adjudicating tort claims against the United States arising overseas. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, Doug went on to obtain a masters=s degree from the George Washington University and a law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in Columbus Georgia; a military prosecutor; a college professor, and an engineer. He holds a license to practice law from Missouri and to practice engineering from Virginia. Doug and his wife, Maura, own a small business, Maura's Pole People, located in Howard County. Maura also works for the Howard County School Board. His older son, Kevin McGrath, attends the University of Virginia where he studies civil engineering and plays for the lacrosse team. His younger son, Brian, attends Mt. Hebron High School and plays football and lacrosse. Previously Doug served on the Advisory committee for the School Board, and volunteers with the Rotary Club of Columbia-Patuxent and at Mt. Hebron High School. Doug has been a member of the Advisory Board since 1998. His term expires on May 1, 2003. Since 1991 she has served as the Corporate Vice President for Special Projects Martin’s Caterers. From 1973 to 1991 she served as Education Officer for the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Dr. Johnson currently serves as the Secretary to the Women’s Housing Coalition, the Woman’s Housing Development, Inc. and the Woman’s Investment, Inc.. She is a member of the Steering Committee of the Enterprise Women’s Network of the Enterprise Foundation and the Board of Managers of the Myrtle Tyler Faithful Fund for the Alpha Zeta Chapter, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Howard County Florence Bain Senior Center. Dr, Johnson is the past President of the Alpha Zeta Chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority from 1998 to 2002. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland from 1998 to 2001, a member of the Executive Committee for the Maryland Association of Non-Profit Organizations from 1997 – 2001, and Secretary for the Board of Regents of Morgan State University. As Chairperson of the Maryland Conference on Girls she was successful in having Governor Glendening establish a permanent ”Council on Girls”. She was inducted into the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame in 1999, and is the recipient of many awards from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. David W. McIlvaine is a licensed realtor who has sold homes in Howard County since 1992. He was born and educated in New Jersey, and began his work career as in management position for 2 major retailers in that State. In New Jersey he served on the PTA Executive Board, as a City Councilman, on the County Planning Board and was a member of both the Governor’s Committee for Probation Reform and the County Agricultural Review Board. Mr. McIlvaine served in the United States Air Force and was Honorably Discharged in 1975. He joined ERA Caton Realty in 1992 and was Rookie of the Year 1992, Top Lister 1993, Tops in Transactions in 1993. He is now with Re/Max and is a member of their 100% Club and Platinum Club. He is a Certified Sales Professional(CSP), a graduate of the Real Estate Institute(GRI), and Certified residential Specialist(CRS) He is a member of Maryland Association of REALTOR and has served on the Education, Legislative, and Publications Committees. He is the Chairman of the PR Committee. Joseph C. Smith is a principal and founder of Universal Home Services, a warranty management company servicing home builders and developers in the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan area. Joe is also an owner operator of a local Case Handyman Services Franchise. He has been in the construction industry holding various positions in both the commercial and residential arenas for over 20 years. His professional credentials include a VA Class A, (3) Maryland Home Improvement licenses, he is a Certified Graduate Remodelor and has performed hundreds of walk through's with homeowners . He is an active member of Rotary International, is a current member of MNCBIA, HBAM and the Remodelor's Council. Joe also authors a monthly column for remodeling in the local Howard County Times Newspaper. Joe enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf and riding his Harley. A lifelong resident of Howard County, Bill is an Administrative Officer for the National Institutes of Health. Bill is the former managing partner and founder of Viaduct Consulting Group, LTD., and he is a founding member and former Board chair of the Maryland Student Legislature, Inc., a simulation of Maryland State Government which is used as a learning tool for college students. Bill has worked as a volunteer activist for various local and state organizations for over fifteen years. He lives in Columbia with his wife and two children, and is also a member of the Oakland Mills Village Board. Bill Woodcock has served on the Consumer Affairs Advisory Board since his appointment in June 1999, and was reappointed in April 2002. |
