FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE OFFICE OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS

If you are a consumer experiencing a problem with a business transaction that occurred in Howard County, the Office of Consumer Affairs may be able to help you resolve your dispute. To begin the process, click on Complaint Form, print and complete the form, and mail it to:

You may also call the office and request a complaint form be sent to you. When filing a complaint, include copies of any contracts, receipts, or other documents that contain important information about your complaint.

Upon receipt of a completed complaint form, it will be reviewed to ensure the complaint falls within the jurisdiction of the Howard County Maryland, Office of Consumer Affairs for geographical location and enforcement authority. The Office of Consumer Affairs can handle complaints about goods and services purchased in Howard County for personal, household, family or agricultural purposes.

If it is determined that your complaint falls under the jurisdiction of another agency, either local, state or federal, your complaint will be forwarded to the proper agency and our office will notify you of our action. The Office of Consumer Affairs does not provide legal advice nor act as your attorney. If we are unable to resolve your complaint, you may wish to consult a private attorney or consider filing suit in Small Claims Court.
