Welcome to Healthy Howard!!
This Health Department Initiative will encourage individuals, restaurants, businesses, schools and other entities in the county to undertake activities that will dramatically improve the health of the county’s residents and workers alike. After restaurants, recreational programs, homes, schools and workplaces will be introduced. Each phase will suggest specific recommendations to make our lives healthier and safer. Even individuals will be able to join in and make their personal choices better ones.
Although Howard County generally has good health indicators, significant improvements can be made in reducing illness and injuries across the age span if more residents and organizations implemented effective prevention and wellness activities. This initiative will encourage everyone to do their part in making Howard healthier” states Dr. Peter Beilenson, Howard County Heath Officer and creator of the Initiative.
According to statistics compiled by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Howard Countians are more overweight, they do not get enough moderate physical activity and they do not eat enough servings of fruits and vegetables as compared with their counterparts across the state (Click here for comparison chart)!
In order to combat these statistics and to make our community the healthiest in the nation, Healthy Howard was developed! Working together we can make a difference in our personal health and the health of our community.
